1.  Tuition Payments:  Lesson payments are due and payable the first week of each quarter.  Payments may be made by cash, check, or credit card; in person or via the studio website.  Please be aware that online payments will be subject to a 3% fee.  If necessary due to budget requirements, payments may be broken down into monthly payments, in the form of one currently dated check and 2 post-dated checks.  The post-dated checks should be dated for the first day of the second and third months of the quarter, at which time they will be deposited.

2.  Cancellation of Lessons and Make-up Lessons

When you register for lessons, you are reserving your weekly lesson time for the school year.  I do not offer make-up lessons and there are no refunds for lessons cancelled by students.  Please note also that each quarter includes 10 lessons.  The yearly schedule has been planned in such a way that each student will have 11 scheduled lessons per quarter, allowing for one absence in the event of illness or other conflicts.  At the end of each quarter, if you have not had any absences, you would take the last week off.  If you should foresee having more than one absence (due to vacations, for example) you may log-in to the student portal, cancel the lesson you will need to miss, and use your make-up credit to register for any available open lesson slot on the calendar.  However, in order to be given make-up credit, the lesson must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance, and the make-up lesson must be scheduled in the same quarter as the missed lesson.

3.  Practice Expectations

The student will be expected to practice a minimum of 15 minutes daily for first year students, and 30 minutes daily for second year students and thereafter.  Practice should be sufficient to cover all assigned material at least 2 times through each piece, and to make progress in mastering note reading, phrasing, dynamics, fingering, and tempo.  The student should be provided, or given access to, a piano that is well maintained and tuned with which to complete his practice requirements.  It is also recommended that a metronome be purchased for practice purposes.

4.  General Expectations

The student should come to lessons with clean hands, and with nails trimmed neatly so as to avoid interfering with piano playing.  Students may arrive at the teacher's home 5 minutes prior to lesson time, but must be promptly picked up at the conclusion of the lesson.  Students or siblings and parents may wait in the teacher's living room/waiting room area, but must wait quietly and avoid distracting activities.

5.  News and Contests

A Special area will be set up to display student photographs.  If you wish your child's photo to be displayed, please provide the teacher with a small, wallet size photo.  In addition to student photos, other information pertinent to piano study will be made available for reading by students and their parents.  I will also conduct various contests throughout the year.  Participation is strictly voluntary.

6.  Recitals

I hold one annual recital in May, usually the first Sunday after Mother's Day.  All students are expected to participate, but this is not required.  There is a once-a-year recital fee of $10 per student for this, which is due and payable with the Spring quarter tuition payment.  The fee helps to defray the cost of the building rental, prizes, and other related items.  Instructions and specifics as to the day/time/location are sent out to parents in February.
